About Niana Analytics
Who we are, what we publish and how we approach football data.
A football analytics desk, not a programming course
Niana Analytics is an editorial desk that explains football data. We write about the metrics that appear on modern dashboards — expected goals, expected assists, PPDA, progressive passes and field tilt — and about the tactical and structural questions those numbers are meant to answer.
Our focus is deliberately narrow: the football. We explain formulas and mechanics, how a metric is constructed and where it breaks down, but we do not teach software engineering. If a guide mentions a model, it is because understanding the model is what lets you read a football number honestly.
What we publish
- Metric explainers that take a formula apart and show what it can and cannot say.
- Tactical data guides on roles, pressing styles, build-up and defensive structure.
- Format explainers for league phases, tournaments, tiebreakers and draws.
- Workflow pieces on scouting, video analysis and tracking data.
How we work
We describe methods, not results. We do not invent player statistics, match scores or invented rankings, and we do not link out to other outlets and data providers. Everything on this site is written in our own words, from first principles, so that a reader can understand the tool rather than memorise a number.
